Ham radio operation brings lot of challenges. One of the greatest is the Earth Moon Earth (EME) communication. I didn’t know much about it until Ted (Z31RM) convinced me to get in to. Taking into consideration his experience on 6m EME, I figured that would be way to start. Boy I was wrong. After a year and a half of building antennas, SSPA’s and other stuff, I was able to complete only one EME QSO on 6m. The reason for the failure was the enormous local noise floor which is higher than the signal bounced from the moon. During the attempts on 6m, various stations were reporting my transmission but I was unable to decode any of those but one. After figuring that out, I simply skipped the 2m which had similar problem and jumped to 70 cm. That was success on the first try. After completing more than 150 QSO’s on 70 cm I wanted to try some microwave EME. Due to a yard limitation and the size of antennas requirement, I decided to go up on 3cm (10.368.200MHz) band. More about the 10GHz Station setup in one of the following projects.
